Events
We run lots of events and regular out-of-hours activities throughout the year which are open to everyone - you don't have to be a member or student of More Than Words to attend. They are a great opportunity to meet new friends, socialise and have fun!
We also regularly perform at community events organised by others. Most recent events include Wigan Dance Festival, Wigan Pride, Rotary Community Day, Warrington Disability Arts Festival, Spectrum Disability Talent Showcase and Leigh Carnival, to name a few. If you are organising a community event and are interested in us performing, please get in touch.
Take a look below at regular out-of hours-activities and events we run or take part in.
Boogie Nights
Boogie Nights is our monthly inclusive disco, held at our base in Wigan. It's normally held on the third Wednesday of each month from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and is aimed primarily at young people and adults aged 18 and over with disabilities and/or autism.
Boogie Nights costs just £5 per person (PAs/support workers get in free). Tickets are sold on the night. It's a safe environment and everyone is welcome - you don't have to be a student of More Than Words to attend.
Snacks and drinks are available to purchase, and guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol.
Free parking is also available. See flyer for dates of future discos.
Drumming Circle
Our weekly drumming circle is held on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at our base in Wigan. It's facilitated by Mark Cozens, a professional musician from Bom-Ta-Bom. The cost is currently £10 per person (discounted rate) - PAs/support workers come free, which includes 90 minutes of drumming, a short break and refreshments. Support can also be provided, if needed, for an additional cost. It's for ages 16+ and members of our drumming circle regularly perform with us at events in the community, but this is optional.
Please note: Due to limited numbers, sessions must be booked and paid for four weeks in advance.
Fit Factory
Fit Factory is for people of all ages and abilities who want to take part in accessible sports, gentle exercise and team games. We make activities inclusive, so that everyone including wheelchair users can take part.
We also offer weight management advice and weekly weigh-ins for those struggling to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Currently the service is on hold. If you are interested in attending, please get in touch to let us know.
